Mbagamoyo handover

Up to now, the pupils of Mbagamoyo had to walk daily some 5-7 kilometers to a school in the neighboring villages.  During the rainy season, they had for kilometers to wade knee-high through the water, which inundates the regio. Needless to say that many kids skip school in that period.

Thanks to the help of Johan and Lena Dekempe-Rosseels (Belgium), this comes now to an end.  They provided the funds to start a new school community in this village.  The first 4-classroom building will be handed over today.  From the new schoolyear onwards, they will start with toddlers and the first 2 years of the primary level.  Then, year after year, they will add a new level.

As there are no pupils yet, there were only few visitors at the ceremony: village leaders, district officials and the local dancers/musicians.  It became a nice ceremony and at the end Johan received as gifts a bag of rice and a chicken.

The building looks impressive in this landscape of rice fields.  Johan promised the village to discuss with his wife the possibility of sponsoring the next building.  Let's all cross fingers!

Lena, Johan, on behalf of this village, the children and their parents: asanteni sanaa!!! You made a real difference for this village!!

On our way to Mbagamoyo:
